Nevada Baylor is faced with the most challenging case of her detective career—a suicide mission to bring in a suspect in a volatile case. Nevada isn’t sure she has the chops. Her quarry is a Prime, the highest rank of magic user, who can set anyone and anything on fire.

Then she’s kidnapped by Connor “Mad” Rogan—a darkly tempting billionaire with equally devastating powers. Torn between wanting to run or surrender to their overwhelming attraction, Nevada must join forces with Rogan to stay alive.

Rogan’s after the same target, so he needs Nevada. But she’s getting under his skin, making him care about someone other than himself for a change. And, as Rogan has learned, love can be as perilous as death, especially in the magic world.

The story starts in a way that has me very concerned that I purchased this book and confused as it does not match the brief synopsis that the sales lady gave me. The story quickly turned around and caught my attention. I found myself unable to put the book down and entirely invested in the story as a whole.

Like I said above I became totally invested in this story and all of the characters. I worried for their safety and truly cared about the out come of the plot. The ability to relate to the characters was really easy and I personally find that rare in a fantasy story. I also found it refreshing that with a female heroine there was no stupid moments where she depended on a man to complete simple tasks. The male lead is there but his assistance comes in the form of magical power only.

The plot ran a little slow at first than picked up to a pace that many may have found too fast, but I felt it was necessary for the proper progress of the story. This is the only place that lost a half star in my mind. This is only because I did have a brief period of time in the beginning where I thought about switching to a different book entirely. I am very happy that I did not switch though and stuck through. Thanks to that brief perseverance I may have possibly found one of my new favourite series.

The romance side of this book, oh gosh. The story is a highly suspenseful romance, will they won’t they. I love myself a hot romance and I found it in this book. The reader could feel the tension between characters and you are just waiting for something to happen and some for of relationship decision to be made. I have already picked up book 2 and hope that the suspense and romance carries over into it as well 🙂

I have already and will continue to recommend this book to friends and family.

I now recommend it to all my bookish followers. READ, ENJOY, AND ESCAPE!

  1. Great review! I saw one of my bookish school friends mention how much she loves this book a few years ago and I became interested but never picked it up. I like hearing that the female MC doesn’t have silly moments and end up relying on a man to help her through with things–which is honestly the impression I get judging from the cover (sorry! lol)! Might see how much this is going for on Kindle now! 😅
